The cliché " Who says they don't make them like they used to", is often used in the marketing hype for the CJ750 motorcycle. In fact, the cliché is valid as the CJ750 motorcycle is based on the original design of the 1938 BMW R71!
There are many versions of the story about how the BMW R71 migrated from its original production facility in Eisenach, Germany, to Russia and finally to China. After researching the subject, we believe that the history outlined below is probably an accurate anecdotal account.
Interestingly, the CJ750 did not finish its migration in China. Its components are now being imported and assembled in Port Elizabeth, South Africa by Classic Cruisers. This means that you can now enjoy classic motorcycling, running a half-century-old design motorcycle that is brand-new and street legal.
